Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Development, the Assistant
Dean of Students/Director of Multicultural Affairs serves as a member of the
Director’s Leadership Team and the Assistant Dean of Students Group.
The new assistant dean is expected to undertake all responsibilities in a manner
hat reflects the Catholic, Marianist mission of the University as well as the
principles of student development theory. The position is responsible for the
total development of a comprehensive diversity and intercultural program
fostering student development and prioritizing student success. This person
will provide leadership for a large and diverse department, assist the campus
in implementing its vision for diversity and inclusion, and supervise and train
Assistant Directors, Academic Success Specialists, Graduate Assistants,
Undergraduate Cooperative Students, and office staff.
The successful candidate will have a master’s degree in student affairs, education,
cultural/multicultural studies, or related field; a doctoral degree or an advanced degree
related to multicultural education or affairs is preferred. UD seeks five to seven years
of progressively responsible experience in the administration of student affairs and
multicultural affairs programs and while supervising professional staff; an understanding
and support for the values and perspectives of a Catholic liberal arts education; demonstrated
competence in multicultural organizational development, assessment of campus climate,
and program evaluation; demonstrated ability to work with broad segments of the community
- students, faculty, staff, and UD leadership; the ability to supervise professional and office
staff and manage a unit budget; informed knowledge of the experience of multicultural
students in a college setting; a demonstrated commitment to promote diversity, assess
inclusion, and foster equity; a strong background in multicultural affairs and diversity
programming; the ability to be an effective team member who can work across
organizational boundaries; and preferably, knowledge of and sensitivity to a Catholic,
Marianist work environment.
