Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU) is a premier liberal arts college nationally known for its
blend of scholarship, teaching, service learning, and student engagement. Chartered in 1842,
Ohio Wesleyan is a highly selective, coeducational, residential, privately supported liberal arts
college of 1850 students located 20 minutes north of Columbus in Delaware, Ohio, a vibrant
community of 26,000 and seat of one of the fastest-growing counties in the country.

OWU announces an exciting opportunity for the position of Dean of Students. In consultation
with a dynamic incoming president, established provost, and other officers, the new Dean will
help shape the future at OWU. The Dean is a member of the President’s Cabinet and will
contribute at the officer level in meaningful strategic planning for the next generation of OWU
. As the chief student affairs officer, the Dean is responsible for envisioning and implementing
co-curricular programs complementing the University’s commitment to educating the whole
person and creating a dynamic atmosphere for campus life. The Dean leads staff in efforts to
build a meaningful community among students, faculty and staff.

Additionally, the successful candidate will be integrally involved in the University’s strategic
and master planning process, including extensive replacement and renewal projects within the
aging residence halls. The new Dean will help craft and implement a new residential master plan.
With a total of seven direct reports, the Dean is responsible for a budget of $2.9 million.
The position provides leadership and direction in the areas of residential life, student
involvement, the campus center, judicial affairs, Greek life, the women’s center, health services,
counseling services, orientation, student leadership, career services, minority student affairs,
international student service, and public safety.

A doctoral degree, or an equivalent combination of academic achievement and experience
in higher education, is required. The successful candidate will have a minimum of a master’s
degree, seven years of progressive supervisory experience in student affairs, with at least seven
years of direct work experience in student services and/or campus life units.

In addition, the position requires a proven track record of exceptional leadership in student affairs;
excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong administrative/management skills;
abilities to develop collaborative working relationships within and across the various divisions
of student life while leading staff to develop collaborative working relationships with members
of the faculty enhancing student success and campus living; abilities to interact effectively with
all segments of the University community; willingness to implement proactive programs and
student development services; and the ability to foster a climate reinforcing the development
of the whole student and maximizing the potential for leadership development with students
and staff.
