The University of Colorado Denver (UCD) is one of three universities in the University of
Colorado system. A comprehensive urban research university, the outcome of a consolidation
of the University of Colorado at Denver and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center,
UCD enrolls more than 27,000 pre-collegiate, undergraduate, graduate, online, and professional
students and awards 3,400 degrees annually. The University operates at two locations—
downtown Denver and the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora— and offers 100 degree

The position of Assistant Vice Chancellor for University Life and Dean of Students
(AVC-University Life) is a new administrative position with responsibility for creating a
forward-thinking, futuristic, and comprehensive vision for student life, student activities,
student clubs and organizations, student government, housing, discipline systems, counseling
support services, parental engagement, and student health insurance for both University of
Colorado Denver campuses.

Reporting directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (the chief student affairs
officer), the AVC-University Life provides guidance for enhancing student life; develops
strategic initiatives improving the quality of the student experience; and implements best
programmatic and policy practices for a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive co-curricular learning
experience. This position will be charged with creating a consolidated University Life Office
and providing effective services at both the Anschutz Medical and the Downtown campuses
. The AVC-University Life directly serves as an appointing authority, manages a budget of
$1.3 million, and oversees a staff of 18, including five direct reports.

This position requires a master’s degree and a minimum of seven years of progressively
responsible experience in a higher education institution within the area of student affairs
and/or campus life. Preferred qualifications include a terminal degree; a proven track record
of exceptional leadership in student affairs; a demonstrated commitment to diversity and
inclusion; demonstrated ability to lead programs focused on student engagement, student learning,
and student development, as well as policy and program development; experience in a comprehensive
urban university; experience in a university health sciences center; documented experience in
developing, implementing, and evaluating unit goals/strategic planning; and a proven track
record of building partnerships with academic departments and faculty; experience with
residence halls and emergency response systems; and an understanding of broad wellness and
mental health issues related to a university campus.
