The University of Nevada, Reno is looking for a full time Administrative Faculty Position,
Assistant Dean of Students. Located in the picturesque Truckee Meadows at the base of
the Sierra Nevada, the University of Nevada, Reno has served as the state's flagship institution
since its founding in 1874. As the first institution of higher learning founded in the state,
the University has a rich tradition of providing instruction, research and outreach.
The Assistant Dean of Students provides comprehensive oversight and direction to students
experiencing significant extenuating circumstances impacting their academic success at the
University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) (i.e., severe mental and/or physical health issues, accidents,
death in the family, and financial or other family crises) and provides expert and informed individual
guidance and academic persistence options and resolution to students in need of advocacy.
The Assistant Dean is responsible for creating and implementing a sophomore experience program
which focuses on increasing student persistence beyond the first year. The Assistant Dean serves
as Chair/case-manager for the Student Intervention Team (SIT) by coordinating all student referrals,
following up on student cases, and reporting assessment data. The SIT helps to identify and assist
students who may be at risk for distressed, distressing, and/or suicidal behavior. The position is
located within Student Life Services in the division of Student Services and reports to the
Associate Vice President of Student Life Services.
The University has a student enrollment of more than 16,000, including about 3,200 graduate students,
and a total budget of nearly $500 million. The University provides a broad range of programs and
degree options, ranging from baccalaureate degrees in more than 75 disciplines to more than 100
graduate-degree programs at the master's and doctoral level.
