The Associate Dean, Student Affairs is responsible for assisting the Dean in the daily administration
of and support for all divisional programs. She/he will lead the planning, development, implementation,
and evaluation of a comprehensive, student-centered campus life program designed to provide a meaningful,
engaging, and educational student experience. He/she is responsible for aligning the strategic and operational
goals of the campus life functions with those of the Student Affairs Division and ensuring operational
efficiencies through a coordinated, collaborative, and integrated approach to co-curricular programming,
experiences, and initiatives. The Associate Dean provides strategic leadership and oversight to 3 departments
and 2 contract services within the Student Affairs Division: Residential Living; Student Activities and
Leadership; Community Engagement and Multifaith Programs; Campus Dining (Sodexo); and Campus
Bookstore (Barnes & Noble).
Essential Responsibilities:
• Mentors and trains staff on the division's philosophy for student engagement, leadership and development
and ensures it is operationalized in staff's daily work with students.
• Works proactively to engage faculty in meaningful partnerships that promote an integrated living-learning
environment through intentional and meaningful collaboration on co-curricular and campus life activities.
• Serves as the primary liaison with administrative and academic departments seeking to develop and
implement a coordinated co-curricular program in student life areas.
• Identifies and implements opportunities to more intentionally coordinate and streamline programmatic
planning across the Student Affairs Division and the Undergraduate School.
• Assists the Dean in responding to departmental, student, and parent inquiries, issues and/or concerns;
specifically those relating to campus life areas.
• Provides leadership to and oversees the successful implementation of a residential living program with a
comprehensive residential education component that furthers students' personal, social, and intellectual
growth and development; reinforces student learning in co-curricular life; reflects a progressive approach
first year, sophomore, and upper class based on a student development philosophy and framework; and
builds a strong residential and campus community.
• Provides leadership to and oversees the successful implementation of a student activities and leadership
program that creates a vibrant and inclusive campus community; promotes students' active engagement in
the design and implementation of co-curricular programs and events; develops and enhances student
leadership skills; and promotes faculty and staff mentorship in their role as advisers to student clubs,
organizations, and initiatives.
• Utilizes the Student Government Association (SGA) and Campus Activities Board (CAB) in an advisory
capacity to shape and inform strategic and operational changes and improvements in campus life. Provides
leadership to SGA and CAB in their ongoing review and evaluation of mission and purpose to ensure strong
student voice; a strengthened partnership between students and administration; and close alignment with
student affairs mission and goals.
• Plans, organizes and implements the Babson College Undergraduate Orientation Program. Serves as Chair
of the program, by providing vision, budget management, and oversight of committee members.
• Provides leadership to and oversees the successful implementation of a community engagement and
multifaith program that promotes and engages students in community service, service learning, and multifaith
programs and initiatives; directly engages in establishing partnerships for shared service with area colleges
and/or faith-based communities that can support faith-based student services, traditions and programs.
• Serves as Babson liaison to contract service operations including but not limited to: Sodexho Food Services,
Barnes & Noble Bookstore, and Comcast. Manages budget; addresses student and faculty concerns; advocates
for operational and service improvements; and ensures compliance with the stated conditions of the contracts
in conjunction with the Financial Affairs Office.
• Develops the housing and meal plan budget projections in conjunction with the Budget Office, Residential
Life staff, and Sodexho management; analyzes and revises budget assumptions and models; oversees
departmental budgets through the direct reports.
• Develops, manages, and implements student transportation services including the Weekend Shuttle Service,
the Babson-Olin-Wellesley Shuttle and Zipcar contract. Contracts an outside vendor, monitors budget, and
works with SGA and other student leaders to gain feedback on the service to modify schedule as needed.
• Develops and implements assessment methods to evaluate current programs, so we can ensure high satisfaction
levels and track achievement of learning objectives; develop improvement plans with staff. Manage and utilize
best practices research to identify and lead ongoing strategic and operational improvements.
• Works in collaboration with the Dean to provide divisional training and development for all staff; including
retreats, in-services, and evaluating all requests for assistance from departments for training needs.
• Advises and counsel students on personal, academic, and community matters. Mediates student conflicts
and refers, when necessary and/or appropriate.
• Serves on senior on-call a minimum of 10 weeks an academic year and respond at any time if called to assist
in any campus crisis response; coordinate, respond, and/or assist with student and campus emergencies/crises;
work with local hospital staff to assess students' status and evaluate ability to return to campus; conduct
necessary follow-up with Public Safety, local agencies, and/or parents and staff as needed; assist with
coordination, communication and implementation of emergency response plans and actions. Serves as
Dean, Student Affairs designee in management of student crisis response.
• Assists the Dean with daily administration and support for collaborative work with the Associate Director,
Graduate Student Affairs with respect to graduate student housing; student activities and leadership;
community engagement and multifaith programs; campus dining, and campus bookstore.
• Serve as member of the College's Health and Wellness Committee and work collaboratively with the
Associate Director of Health and Wellness to develop campus-wide programming and response efforts,
based on priority health and wellness areas.
• Lead technology-related efforts for all campus life areas (web, social media, technology platforms, etc.)
to enhance student services, operational efficiencies, and student engagement in campus life activities;
designate to staff as appropriate; coordinate the integration of technology into department operations
and student services.
• Serve on various standing and ad-hoc committees, directly or indirectly related to campus life and
student affairs issues.
• Serve as an FYS facilitator (to be reviewed annually).
• Serve as a Judicial Hearing Officer.
• Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements: Minimum Level of Education Required: Master's Degree Minimum Level of Experience
Required: 5-7 years of related experience
Working Conditions: Live on position (negotiable if current housing has close proximity to campus), senior
on call responsibilities. Ability to travel on and off campus; evening and weekend work expected.
Additional Required Skills and Abilities: • Exceptional management and interpersonal skills. • Demonstrated
skills with technology integration. • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word,
Excel, Access, PowerPoint) • Knowledge of program development, management and evaluation, facilities
management and planning, and budget management. • Knowledge of student group advisement and
organizational development, student and staff training development, student leadership program development,
housing operations, an understanding of residential programs, and student development theory and
knowledge of college policies, disciplinary processes and legal issues in higher education. • Ability to
establish and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, administration, staff, parents and alumni.
